About the Essentia Health Iron Range Half Marathon
The course runs point-to-point along the Mesabi Trail, moving through wooded stretches from one Iron Range town to the next before finishing back in Virginia. Along the way, the route crosses a memorial bridge that holds the distinction of being the highest in the state, a moment that stands out against the otherwise tree-lined trail. The surface is paved the whole way, and the canopy keeps much of it shaded.
Buses carry runners from the finish area to the start, so you drop your gear at the event center and ride out together before the gun. The event center serves as the hub for the weekend, with a companion road race the evening before offering a warmup to the main event.
