About the 11th Annual Equal Access Birmingham Heart + Sole 5K

The course runs from Railroad Park through the Jones Valley Train area downtown, so you get a good stretch of urban scenery on pavement. The race is a fundraiser for a free medical clinic staffed by medical students, which shapes the crowd a bit. A DJ keeps the energy up before the start, and there is a costume contest with prizes.

Packet pickup is at a medical school building the day before, with race-morning pickup also available. The start and finish are in a parking lot across from Mountain Brook Community Education. Afterward, the party moves to Good People Brewing Company, where a portion of sales goes back to the clinic.
