About the EPFD Freaky 5k

The course winds through residential neighborhoods, starting and finishing at a local fire station. The roads are typical neighborhood streets, and costumes are encouraged, so expect some memorable outfits passing you on the course. It is a road race with a festive, spooky spirit to it.

A DJ is set up at the finish, and there are post-race refreshments on hand for runners and spectators alike. The race benefits the fire department's local charity fund, so the crowd around the start and finish tends to include a good mix of neighbors who came out to cheer.

Common Questions About the EPFD Freaky 5k

Will I finish last at the EPFD Freaky 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 34:30, and the last recorded finisher came in around 58:39, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the EPFD Freaky 5k a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (109 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the EPFD Freaky 5k?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 21:10 while the median finisher took 34:30. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
