About the EMC DAM to DSM
The course runs point-to-point from Saylorville Dam south into downtown Des Moines, so the direction of travel is always the same and there is no doubling back. Early miles pass through open farmland and rural Polk County before the route crosses an interstate bridge and threads into city neighborhoods, then follows the Des Moines River into downtown. It finishes by crossing the river near a prominent civic building.
The post-race gathering is at Cowles Commons, a plaza across from the civic center, and by the time most runners arrive it is already busy.
