About the Edenton Nut Run

The course moves through historic downtown Edenton and out into working peanut fields that are close to harvest, so the scenery shifts pretty dramatically mid-run. Roads mix with gravel farm tracks, and the waterfront and colonial streetscape bookend the rural stretch. Several distance options let you run short, long, or back-to-back if you want to push it.

The race is tied to the Peanut Festival, and the celebration kicks off right after the finish. A parade rolls through downtown, there is live music on porches along the main streets, and a kids sack race takes place on the courthouse green. Packet pickup runs the evening before at a spot on the waterfront, with race-morning pickup also available.

Common Questions About the Edenton Nut Run

Will I finish last at the Edenton Nut Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 41:13, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:05:52, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Edenton Nut Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (91 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Edenton Nut Run?

The 5K winner ran 19:10 while the median finisher took 41:13. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
