About the Durango Turkey Trot

The course rolls out from a college campus, loops through a residential neighborhood, dips past a reservoir, and swings behind a golf course before returning to campus for a finish near the clocktower. There are a couple of real climbs along the way, enough to make the legs work without being relentless. The surroundings shift between campus, neighborhood streets, and open views.

Packet pickup is on race morning at the Student Union, so you can arrive, get your bib, and be ready without much fuss. After the race, an amphitheater right by the finish line hosts an awards ceremony, a gobble contest, and a prize drawing.

Finish-Time Stats

Common Questions About the Durango Turkey Trot

Will I finish last at the Durango Turkey Trot?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5 Miles field finished slower than 51:34, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:35:20, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Durango Turkey Trot a good first 5 Miles?

A field of 649 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Durango Turkey Trot?

The 5 Miles winner ran 26:29 while the median finisher took 51:34. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
