About the Dunwoody Dash 5k and Fun Run

The course starts near the entrance to a nature center and runs through the surrounding neighborhood streets. Part of the route is closed to cars on race day, so the roads are clear. The race qualifies for the AJC Peachtree Road Race, which draws some runners who are chasing that entry, though plenty of others are there just to move their legs on a fall morning.

The school campus goes pedestrian-only for the event, so parking means walking in from a nearby street or one of a few suggested spots in the neighborhood. Bag pickup runs on several mornings and afternoons at the school in the days before the race, with a race-morning option as well. Afterward, food trucks and music set up in the school playground area.

Common Questions About the Dunwoody Dash 5k and Fun Run

Will I finish last at the Dunwoody Dash 5k and Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 36:36, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:10:54, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Dunwoody Dash 5k and Fun Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (167 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Dunwoody Dash 5k and Fun Run?

The 5K winner ran 17:40 while the median finisher took 36:36. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
