About the Doug Opel's Run for the Kids

This is a Thanksgiving morning Turkey Trot in Sheboygan, run to benefit at-risk kids through the local YMCA. The race draws groups in costume, families running together, and work crews with matching getups. There are awards for the biggest family contingent and for the most creative non-family group, which gives the morning a playful, slightly chaotic energy.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at the Sheboygan YMCA, with race-morning pickup available as well before the start. Apparel options are sold separately at registration, so if you want something to wear, sort that out ahead of time.

Common Questions About the Doug Opel's Run for the Kids

Will I finish last at the Doug Opel's Run for the Kids?

Almost certainly not. Half the 2 Miles field finished slower than 20:03, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:20:09, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Doug Opel's Run for the Kids a good first 2 Miles?

A field of 657 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 2 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Doug Opel's Run for the Kids?

The 2 Miles winner ran 11:20 while the median finisher took 20:03. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
