The course follows the Monon South Trail out from the trailhead at the corner of Franklin and Jefferson, then turns back to the same spot. It is a paved trail run through the surroundings the festival takes its name from, and the out-and-back shape means you see the same scenery twice, which most people do not mind. Several distance options mean the start area draws a wide range of people.
