About the Dobie Dash

The Dobie Dash runs through the Dia de los Dobies spirit, with participants encouraged to wear bright colors and painted sugar skull face paint. The race benefits the athletic department at Dorothea Brown Middle School, so the crowd leans toward school families and neighbors. The course starts and finishes at the middle school campus.

Packet pickup takes place at the school itself, on the south side of the building, the evening before race day. Race-morning arrival should be straightforward since the start area is right on campus.

Common Questions About the Dobie Dash

Will I finish last at the Dobie Dash?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 36:31, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:03:39, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Dobie Dash a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (106 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Dobie Dash?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 20:35 while the median finisher took 36:31. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
