About the Dizzy Horse, A Winter Backyard Ultra
This is a backyard ultra, meaning you run a loop roughly every hour until only one person is left standing. The course winds through Sandy Downs Park, mixing grass, dirt, a stretch of horse racetrack, sand, and some pavement. Winter conditions in Idaho Falls can turn all of it to snow. There is one real climb, a short steep push along a canal, and the rest is essentially flat.
The race is headquartered at the Bonneville County Exhibition Hall, which also serves as the indoor transition area between loops. A bell counts down the final minutes before each loop starts, so you always know when to stop eating and get back to the corral. Runners can choose between a bare-bones entry with water and bathroom access or upgrade to a reserved indoor space with a catered aid station.
