About the Discovery Dash 5K/10K and 1 Mile Fun Run

The course runs through Discovery Park of America, a heritage park with a man-made river, waterfalls, and bridges woven into the route. You pass a century-old church, a frontier settlement, an early-town reproduction, and a vintage train station, all within the park grounds. In fall, part of the park is dressed up as a pumpkin village, which makes the surroundings feel genuinely different from a typical road race.

Race-morning check-in happens on site at the park, and there is pre-race entertainment before the start. An inflatable archway marks the finish line, and an awards ceremony follows shortly after the last runners come in.

Common Questions About the Discovery Dash 5K/10K and 1 Mile Fun Run

Will I finish last at the Discovery Dash 5K/10K and 1 Mile Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.11 Miles field finished slower than 35:28, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:30, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Discovery Dash 5K/10K and 1 Mile Fun Run a good first 3.11 Miles?

It is a small race (137 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.11 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Discovery Dash 5K/10K and 1 Mile Fun Run?

The 3.11 Miles winner ran 17:16 while the median finisher took 35:28. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
