About the Dirt Cheap Stage Race

This is a trail stage race spread across three consecutive days, each stage its own distinct run through Mendon's woods and terrain. The opening stage goes out at dusk, headlamps likely required. The middle day features a notorious stair climb finish at Devils Bathtub. The final stage is the longest and most demanding of the three, with an early start option for those who earned it based on earlier results.

Packet pickup is strongly encouraged at Fleet Feet at The Armory in Rochester before the event begins. On-site pickup is available each morning but the windows close quickly, so showing up early matters. Parking is assigned by day to specific lots within the park, and roadside parking is not allowed. Post-race food follows each stage.

Common Questions About the Dirt Cheap Stage Race

Will I finish last at the Dirt Cheap Stage Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5.5 Miles field finished slower than 53:53, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:46:12, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Dirt Cheap Stage Race a good first 5.5 Miles?

A field of 262 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5.5 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Dirt Cheap Stage Race?

The 5.5 Miles winner ran 32:08 while the median finisher took 53:53. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
