About the Dia de los Muertos 5K Run/Walk

The course runs through Wicker Memorial Park, a wooded public park in Highland. It is a professionally timed route, and the field includes everyone from competitive runners to families with dogs on leash. The event is built around Día de los Muertos, so expect face paint, costumes, and Aztec ceremonial dancers near the start area.

Before the race gets going, there is a Zumba warm-up on site, and a live DJ runs music throughout the morning. A costume contest is part of the day, open to runners, walkers, and their pets. Proceeds support scholarships for local college students through Adelante, Inc., the nonprofit that organizes the event.

Common Questions About the Dia de los Muertos 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Dia de los Muertos 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 44:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:22:41, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Dia de los Muertos 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

A field of 256 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Dia de los Muertos 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 17:52 while the median finisher took 44:45. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
