About the Delaware Running Festival

The course moves through downtown Wilmington, crossing into Brandywine Park along the river, then out through historic neighborhoods and past Rodney Square. The route has real variety, and the city's older architecture gives it something to look at the whole way. The organizers have straightened out the turns over time, so navigation is clean.

The finish area is at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park, where there is live music and vendors. It draws a crowd well beyond the runners, so there is genuine energy at the line rather than just a timing clock and a cone.

Common Questions About the Delaware Running Festival

Will I finish last at the Delaware Running Festival?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:12:53, and the last recorded finisher came in around 4:29:36, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Delaware Running Festival a good first 13.1 Miles?

With 863 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Delaware Running Festival?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:15:41 while the median finisher took 2:12:53. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
