About the Deerpark PTA Ranger Run

The chip-timed course runs through Rattan Creek Park, with a shorter untimed option for those who want to cover less ground. The race draws families from the middle school, its feeder elementaries, and the surrounding neighborhood, so the field is a genuine cross-section of one corner of Austin. Strollers are welcome on the route.

Packet pickup happens on the two evenings before the race at Deerpark Middle School's front drive, with a race-morning window near the soccer field at Rattan Creek Park. Age group awards cover a wide spread of grades and adult brackets, and there is a separate category for teachers.

Common Questions About the Deerpark PTA Ranger Run

Will I finish last at the Deerpark PTA Ranger Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 31:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 51:12, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Deerpark PTA Ranger Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (180 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Deerpark PTA Ranger Run?

The 5K winner ran 18:17 while the median finisher took 31:45. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
