About the Death By a Mile
The course sits at a ski area in Hatcher Pass, which tells you most of what you need to know about the terrain. Each loop climbs a gravel path before hitting a trail across a mountain meadow, and runners pick the direction on the loop each time around. The goal is simple: complete as many loops as possible before your time window closes.
The Skeetawk Yurt stays open throughout the race for warmth, coffee, and drinks. Aid station snacks and electrolytes are provided, but the organizers are clear that you should bring your own food and gear for the duration. A headlamp is worth packing, and so is a plan for whatever the mountain decides to do with the weather.
