About the Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Waco
The race starts at Indian Springs Park and winds through parkland terrain, passing lakes and trees along the way. The course has a Day of the Dead theme, and runners are encouraged to show up in costume. Before the gun goes off, there is a costume contest judged on creativity and spirit, with an award presented to the winner.
At the finish, there is a rally tent with a DJ, live awards, and Mexican food and drinks. Award winners are announced by name. The post-race setup has the feel of a small festival rather than a quick pack-up-and-leave finish line.
