About the Day of the Dead 5k & Street Festival
The course starts outside Centro Mexican Restaurant and moves through historic Oakwood Cemetery, so the surroundings are unlike most road races. The streets are downtown, the scenery is old headstones and tree canopy, and the whole route leans into the Day of the Dead theme in a way that feels genuinely fitting rather than decorative.
After the run, a street festival opens on Wilmington Street with local vendors, food, music, traditional dancers, and Día de los Muertos altars. There is also a costume contest, and plenty of people come just for the festival side of things. The post-race crowd tends to be as much of a draw as the race itself.
