About the Dash for Dad

The course loops around Lake Hawkins, staying close to the water the whole way. The terrain is straightforward, without significant climbing, and the lake setting gives you something to look at the entire time. The race was started in memory of a father lost to cancer, and that origin is still at the center of it.

After finishing, the beach area at the lake stays open, so people tend to linger. Swimming and just sitting by the water are part of the day. Parking is included with registration, and the whole thing is set up so families can make an afternoon of it.

Finish-Time Stats

Going by the 2026 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

Common Questions About the Dash for Dad

Will I finish last at the Dash for Dad?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 36:21, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:09:48, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Dash for Dad a good first 5K?

It is a small race (34 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Dash for Dad?

The 5K winner ran 19:04 while the median finisher took 36:21. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
