About the Dash For A Cure 5K/1 Mile Fun Walk/Kid's Dash

The course runs through downtown London and into Veterans Memorial Park, so there is a bit of context beyond a standard out-and-back. The route is flat and moves quickly. The race raises money for a local cancer fund, and the crowd leans into it, with many runners showing up in pink.

There is food and a DJ at the finish, and awards go deep into the age groups. A prize goes to the largest team and another to the best-dressed, so groups tend to arrive with a plan. Chip timing is used throughout.

Common Questions About the Dash For A Cure 5K/1 Mile Fun Walk/Kid's Dash

Will I finish last at the Dash For A Cure 5K/1 Mile Fun Walk/Kid's Dash?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:53, and the last recorded finisher came in around 57:29, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Dash For A Cure 5K/1 Mile Fun Walk/Kid's Dash a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (120 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Dash For A Cure 5K/1 Mile Fun Walk/Kid's Dash?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:22 while the median finisher took 33:53. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
