About the Danville Heritage 5K
The course runs a loop trail through wooded terrain at Hess Recreation Area, crossing a creek by way of a covered bridge. Part of the route follows a rail trail that holds a place in the historical record as the country's earliest documented example of its kind, so there is real history in the ground beneath your feet. The terrain is mostly flat, with a short stretch on road.
Race-morning packet pickup and registration happen at the picnic pavilion inside the recreation area, wrapping up before the start. Parking and restrooms are on site. The event raises money for the local school district's cross country program.
