About the Cove Lake Christmas Dash

The race takes place at Cove Lake State Park, routed through what the park itself offers, which tends to mean paved paths and open water views rather than technical trail. Festive holiday costumes are encouraged, and enough people show up in them that the start line has a certain absurd charm to it. Santa is there for photos before or after you run.

Race-morning packet pickup happens at the start area. Hot chocolate and a Christmas treat bag are at the finish, which makes the post-race hangout worth sticking around for.

Common Questions About the Cove Lake Christmas Dash

Will I finish last at the Cove Lake Christmas Dash?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 41:01, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:05:06, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Cove Lake Christmas Dash a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (127 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Cove Lake Christmas Dash?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 20:32 while the median finisher took 41:01. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
