About the Coombs/Douglass Memorial Bay Run (5 Mile & 2 Mile)

The course runs primarily along the Delaware Bay, so you get water views for most of the route. The terrain is flat enough that the scenery stays in focus rather than the effort, and the shorter option makes it accessible for walkers who want the same waterfront stretch. Proceeds go to Special Olympics of South Jersey.

The race starts at the Town Bank Fire Hall, which also serves as the post-race gathering point. Breakfast is served after you finish, and there is a special category recognizing the first firefighter and first law enforcement finisher in the longer race.

Common Questions About the Coombs/Douglass Memorial Bay Run (5 Mile & 2 Mile)

Will I finish last at the Coombs/Douglass Memorial Bay Run (5 Mile & 2 Mile)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 2 Miles field finished slower than 22:46, and the last recorded finisher came in around 43:51, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Coombs/Douglass Memorial Bay Run (5 Mile & 2 Mile) a good first 2 Miles?

It is a small race (80 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 2 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Coombs/Douglass Memorial Bay Run (5 Mile & 2 Mile)?

The 2 Miles winner ran 10:49 while the median finisher took 22:46. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
