About the Cookies & Cocoa 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run

The course loops around a high school campus, going a full circuit and then partway around again to reach the finish. It is a certified course and also qualifies runners for the Peachtree Road Race, which matters to a lot of people who show up. The surroundings are school grounds, so expect pavement and a route that doubles back on itself near the end.

Packet pickup runs the afternoon before in the high school cafeteria. Race-morning pickup is available in the stadium parking lot before the start. The race benefits the high school's career and technical education programs, and there are cookies and cocoa at the finish, so the post-race spread is worth sticking around for.

Common Questions About the Cookies & Cocoa 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run

Will I finish last at the Cookies & Cocoa 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:38, and the last recorded finisher came in around 59:47, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Cookies & Cocoa 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (183 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Cookies & Cocoa 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run?

The 5K winner ran 17:50 while the median finisher took 35:38. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
