About the Congaree and Penn Spiked Apple 5k
The course runs through the orchards and farmland of Congaree and Penn, a working cider farm and restaurant, and follows the river for much of the route. The footing is uneven in places, cross-country style rather than pavement, so trail shoes or something with grip will serve you better than road flats. The cidery is the start and finish.
Packet pickup is race morning only, beginning about an hour before the gun. The farm restaurant opens for lunch later in the morning, and reservations are worth making ahead of time. There is cider at the finish, and cider donuts. Spectators can buy a farm pass on site, so bringing people along is easy enough.
