About the Cocoa Classic 5K

The course is a USATF-certified loop that starts and finishes at Mount Vernon School, and it qualifies for the Peachtree Road Race. It is described as fast. The race was started by a high school student who saw kids at a food bank in worn-out shoes; it now also supports mental health outreach for teens and young adults.

Packet pickup runs before race morning, with bib pickup also available at the school on race day. Registration opens a bit before the start. Hot cocoa is at the finish, which fits both the name and a cool morning well.

Common Questions About the Cocoa Classic 5K

Will I finish last at the Cocoa Classic 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:30, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:02:10, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Cocoa Classic 5K a good first 5K?

A field of 301 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Cocoa Classic 5K?

The 5K winner ran 19:44 while the median finisher took 35:30. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
