About the Coach Mike Slinskey Memorial 5k

The course runs through Bowdoin Park on trail, so expect dirt and grass underfoot rather than pavement. It is a tribute race for a local coach and runner, and that shapes the whole morning. Right after the main race, there is a short all-out sprint called the Slinskey Surprise, a tradition borrowed from Coach Mike's own training sessions when he wanted to push his athletes a little harder.

Proceeds go to brain tumor research and local families affected by the disease, as well as a scholarship set up in his name. The park setting gives the finish area room to spread out, and the crowd tends to be people who knew him or ran with him.
