About the City Point Races

The course takes you through downtown Hopewell and into historic City Point, with long stretches along the Appomattox River. The route has a sense of place to it, old streets and open water, and several distance options mean you see more or less of it depending on what you signed up for. Kids have their own shorter races separate from the main field.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at the race site, with a second window on race morning. There is no registration on either day, so showing up without an entry is not an option. Age group awards are self-serve at a stage on site rather than announced at a ceremony, so check the results board and head over when you are ready.

Common Questions About the City Point Races

Will I finish last at the City Point Races?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 35:23, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:06:37, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the City Point Races a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (148 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the City Point Races?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 16:44 while the median finisher took 35:23. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
