About the 30th Annual Chief Joseph Uphill Run

The course starts at Thomson Park and heads into the hills north of Laurel, so there is real climbing involved. Several distance options mean faster runners and those out for a shorter morning effort share the same start area. The name says uphill, and the route earns it.

Packet pickup runs on the couple of days before the race at the Laurel Chamber of Commerce on Main Street, with race-morning pickup available at Thomson Park as a backup. Parking and the start area are at the park itself.

Common Questions About the 30th Annual Chief Joseph Uphill Run

Will I finish last at the 30th Annual Chief Joseph Uphill Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 2 Miles field finished slower than 23:13, and the last recorded finisher came in around 42:56, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 30th Annual Chief Joseph Uphill Run a good first 2 Miles?

It is a small race (109 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 2 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 30th Annual Chief Joseph Uphill Run?

The 2 Miles winner ran 11:53 while the median finisher took 23:13. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
