About the Champion Mine Trail Race
The course launches from Broad Street in Nevada City and heads into the surrounding forest, mixing pavement, gravel, and single-track trail. There are real climbs throughout, a swinging bridge over Deer Creek, and sections that run past old mining landmarks. The terrain shifts enough to keep things interesting, and the tree cover through the pines is dense for most of the route.
Several distance options are available, from a short run up to a half-marathon. The race benefits the Bear Yuba Land Trust and helps fund local trail work in the area, so post-race conversation tends to lean that direction.
