About the Camp Sunshine Run for the Sun

The course starts and finishes at Kollen Park, a lakeside park in downtown Holland. The route follows an established city course, so the roads are familiar to local runners. A shorter walk option starts from the same spot, making the morning feel open to the whole spectrum of people who show up for a neighborhood race like this.

Packet pickup runs in the park near the playground before the race starts, right beside the starting line. Parking is limited at the east end where the race begins, but street parking nearby and a lot on the west side of the park near the boat launch both give you options. A treat truck is on hand after you finish.

Common Questions About the Camp Sunshine Run for the Sun

Will I finish last at the Camp Sunshine Run for the Sun?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 29:16, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:03:35, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Camp Sunshine Run for the Sun a good first 5K?

It is a small race (95 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Camp Sunshine Run for the Sun?

The 5K winner ran 17:40 while the median finisher took 29:16. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
