About the Cabin Fever Trail Race

The course runs almost entirely on bridle path and single-track trail through a park in Richfield, with barely any pavement underfoot. Mud is part of the deal here, and the organizers ask you to go straight through puddles rather than around them to protect the trail edges. Two distance options split near the back half of the route, marked and staffed at the fork.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a local running store, with race-morning pickup at the lodge on site starting well before the gun. After finishing, there is a s'mores station by a fire and a beer garden, with each participant getting a drink ticket from a local brewery.

Common Questions About the Cabin Fever Trail Race

Will I finish last at the Cabin Fever Trail Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5 Miles field finished slower than 55:14, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:41:29, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Cabin Fever Trail Race a good first 5 Miles?

It is a small race (114 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Cabin Fever Trail Race?

The 5 Miles winner ran 36:22 while the median finisher took 55:14. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
