About the BYA on the Parkway 5K & 10K

This is an evening race run as the sun goes down, which shapes the whole feel of it. The route runs along a parkway, so the road is wide and the surroundings are open. Both distance options share the same start, and the 10K course has a recently updated route.

Packet pickup runs the evening before the race, with a day-of option opening a couple of hours before the start. The late afternoon timing means parking and setup happen in the cooler part of the day, and the finish comes right around dusk.

Common Questions About the BYA on the Parkway 5K & 10K

Will I finish last at the BYA on the Parkway 5K & 10K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:58, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:22:53, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the BYA on the Parkway 5K & 10K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (157 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the BYA on the Parkway 5K & 10K?

The 5K winner ran 20:34 while the median finisher took 34:58. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
