About the Bull of the Woods Trail Races
The course climbs into high alpine terrain above Taos Ski Valley, gaining serious elevation through tight singletrack, open meadows, and exposed ridgelines. Some sections are steep enough that hands on knees is the honest description. The surroundings shift from ski resort infrastructure to remote wilderness quickly, with views across the Wheeler Peak Wilderness that open up near the summits of both Fraser and Kachina peaks.
Several distance options are available, from a short technical climb to a full mountain marathon that crosses to the Northside trail system after an initial summit push. The Northside portion is primarily narrow singletrack through quieter terrain, and the descent back to the finish is fast and winding. Volunteers are coordinated through a local trails association that receives a portion of proceeds.
