About the Bookin’ It 5K

The course runs through Sandy Creek Park, a wooded park setting on the edge of Athens. The race benefits the local public library, and runners are encouraged to come dressed as a book character, so the start line tends to look a little theatrical. There is a shorter fun run option alongside the main distance, making it a common choice for families running together.

Packet pickup and race-day registration both happen on-site the morning of the race, well before the start. Awards follow within an hour or so after the main race finishes, so there is no long wait around if you want to stick for results.

Common Questions About the Bookin’ It 5K

Will I finish last at the Bookin’ It 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:46, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:03:52, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Bookin’ It 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (90 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Bookin’ It 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 21:04 while the median finisher took 33:46. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
