About the Book It! Friends of the Waterford Library 5K

The course starts and finishes at the Warming House on Civic Center Campus, winding out through the surrounding road grid past a pond and looping back by way of several intersecting roads. The terrain is flat pavement with turns that keep things interesting. It benefits the local public library, and kids and dogs are both welcome on the course.

Packet pickup opens race morning at the Warming House, which is also where you check in and start. The campus pond is nearby, so there is something to look at while you wait.

Common Questions About the Book It! Friends of the Waterford Library 5K

Will I finish last at the Book It! Friends of the Waterford Library 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 30:10, and the last recorded finisher came in around 59:12, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Book It! Friends of the Waterford Library 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (91 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Book It! Friends of the Waterford Library 5K?

The 5K winner ran 17:16 while the median finisher took 30:10. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
