About the Blackhawk Turkey Trot

The course heads out along a straight road and turns back the same way, so there are no surprises and no real elevation change to speak of. It is the kind of course where you can run hard from the start and gauge your effort against runners coming the other direction.

The start and finish are at the Darlington Township Building and Fire Hall, which gives the morning a practical, no-frills feel. Proceeds go toward the high school cross country and track and field programs, so the people running it tend to have a connection to those teams.

Common Questions About the Blackhawk Turkey Trot

Will I finish last at the Blackhawk Turkey Trot?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 38:18, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:02:46, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Blackhawk Turkey Trot a good first 5K?

A field of 279 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Blackhawk Turkey Trot?

The 5K winner ran 15:38 while the median finisher took 38:18. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
