The course winds through Black Mountain's historic downtown and into the surrounding neighborhoods, so you get storefronts and mountain views in the same run. The terrain is road the whole way. There is also a shorter fun run option open to strollers and dogs on leashes, which tends to draw families with young kids. A portion of registration fees goes to local food and animal rescue organizations.
