About the Black Friday Relays Leftover Race

This is a relay race held at Salem Lake, with teams running out-and-back legs along the lake. The format is built around pairing up with whoever is still at your house after Thanksgiving, so the entry structure is flexible enough to handle small groups or larger ones. The course is the same stretch for every runner on every team, just run by different people in turn.

Packet pickup is race-morning only, at the marina building at Salem Lake. There is no option to pick up the night before. Late registration is accepted in person on race day as well, so last-minute additions to your crew are possible.

Common Questions About the Black Friday Relays Leftover Race

Will I finish last at the Black Friday Relays Leftover Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:16, and the last recorded finisher came in around 44:22, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Black Friday Relays Leftover Race a good first 5K?

It is a small race (16 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Black Friday Relays Leftover Race?

The 5K winner ran 24:11 while the median finisher took 33:16. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
