The course runs through the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, mixing shaded trail sections with park roads alongside spring-fed streams. It is the kind of terrain where you are genuinely looking around, not just staring at the pavement. Bison are in the area, so the name is not just a name.
After the race, a car show runs nearby at a local hotel, with food trucks and vendors filling out the morning. It is a natural place to linger if you have no reason to rush home.
