The Bird Dog Breakaway runs through Waynesboro City Park and benefits the Center for New Beginnings, which serves children and adolescents with special needs. Alongside the main run there are children's distances, including an adaptive option, so race morning draws a wide mix of ages. Leashed dogs and strollers are both permitted on course.

Packet pickup runs the afternoon before at the Center for New Beginnings, with pickup also available race morning at the park. Parking is nearby at a supermarket and a historic inn. ATMs are a short walk away on Liberty Street.
