About the Binghamton Ugly Sweater 5K

The course runs through Otsiningo Park, a riverside green space in Binghamton. The race leans into the holiday theme hard: runners pick a team, Santa or Grinch, and the ugly sweater contest runs alongside the timed event, with prizes for several categories of sweater distinction. The beneficiary is a local nonprofit that runs a doggy daycare employing people with special needs.

Packet pickup opens at the park on race morning, well before the start. Post-race, there are Christmas cookies and hot chocolate at the finish area.

Common Questions About the Binghamton Ugly Sweater 5K

Will I finish last at the Binghamton Ugly Sweater 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:38, and the last recorded finisher came in around 55:50, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Binghamton Ugly Sweater 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (104 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Binghamton Ugly Sweater 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 19:35 while the median finisher took 33:38. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
