About the Bigfoot Dash 5K

The route starts at an elementary school and winds through residential streets and neighborhoods before looping back. It is mostly flat road running through the heart of town, with turns through quieter side streets giving it a neighborhood feel rather than a point-to-point stretch. The race kicks off the WNC Bigfoot Festival, so the morning has a lively backdrop before the downtown celebration starts.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at the same elementary school where the race starts, with a race-morning option as well. Parking is available at a church across the street and along the surrounding roads. Age group awards go several tiers deep, so runners across a wide range of paces have a shot at recognition.

Common Questions About the Bigfoot Dash 5K

Will I finish last at the Bigfoot Dash 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:41, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:00:48, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Bigfoot Dash 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (173 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Bigfoot Dash 5K?

The 5K winner ran 19:23 while the median finisher took 37:41. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
