About the Big Sur River Run
The course runs on blacktop through Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, looping alongside the river through redwood and oak grove campgrounds. It stays flat the whole way, with the trees close on either side. Both distance options follow the same basic path, so the surroundings feel the same whether you are running shorter or longer. Prizes go to top finishers in the longer race.
The race benefits the local volunteer fire department and the community health center, both of which depend on donations to serve a remote area. That context is present on race morning: this is a small coastal community putting on its own event, and the people running it are your neighbors.
