About the Big Red Apple 5K & 1 Mile

The course starts and finishes at the Big Red Apple monument, a giant apple sculpture that gives the race its name, and loops through Cornelia City Park. The route is a straightforward out-and-back style through the park, not demanding terrain, and the monument makes for a recognizable, easy-to-find gathering point on race morning.

Packet pickup opens on race morning before the start, so there is no need to make a separate trip the day before. Afterward, the Big Red Apple Festival is happening in downtown Cornelia, which makes for a natural extension of the morning if you want to stick around.

Common Questions About the Big Red Apple 5K & 1 Mile

Will I finish last at the Big Red Apple 5K & 1 Mile?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 38:30, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:05:54, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Big Red Apple 5K & 1 Mile a good first 5K?

It is a small race (180 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Big Red Apple 5K & 1 Mile?

The 5K winner ran 20:36 while the median finisher took 38:30. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
