About the BENefit Mile

The BENefit Mile runs point to point through a residential street, starting near a church and finishing at a park in downtown Plainfield. The course trends downhill the whole way, which makes for quick legs and fast finishes. Corrals are organized by estimated pace, so faster runners go out together rather than threading through the whole field.

Packet pickup is available the evening before at a running shop inside a local mall, and again at the finish line park on race day before the start. Because the start and finish are in different places, plan your parking with the walk between them in mind. A kids' run and an awards gathering follow the main race at the finish line park.

Common Questions About the BENefit Mile

Will I finish last at the BENefit Mile?

Almost certainly not. Half the 1 Miles field finished slower than 6:28, and the last recorded finisher came in around 23:56, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the BENefit Mile a good first 1 Miles?

It is a small race (188 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the BENefit Mile?

The 1 Miles winner ran 4:29 while the median finisher took 6:28. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
