About the Because of the Brave 5K
The course winds through the grounds of American Village, a paved loop completed twice with the Alabama National Cemetery just next door. This is not a timed event. Every participant carries a small American flag on a pole for the entire route, and at check-in you are asked to write the name of a fallen hero on a custom flag that stays on display at future editions of the event.
Check-in is at the start and finish line near the main parking lot, and the organizers note there is plenty of parking and restroom access nearby. A brief pre-run gathering happens before the start. After finishing, you can walk over to the Alabama National Cemetery for their Memorial Day ceremony, and American Village holds its own celebration the same morning.
