The race starts and finishes at an elementary school outside Bostic, which gives the morning a distinctly school-event feel. Parents, kids, and teachers make up a good chunk of the crowd. The shorter distance is reserved for younger children and runs untimed, so families with small kids can join in without pressure. The main course goes out through the surrounding area and comes back to the school grounds.
