About the Beach to Beer 5K & 10K

The course follows the Potomac waterfront, so you have water on one side for most of the run. The terrain is flat throughout, which makes it a straightforward morning whether you are running the shorter or longer distance. Awards go to top finishers overall and by age group for both races.

Packet pickup is race morning at the Town Hill start area, with a parking lot right there and street parking nearby. After you finish, a beer garden run by two local craft breweries sets up on site, along with a food truck and live music. Bring a chair or a blanket if you want to stay a while.

Common Questions About the Beach to Beer 5K & 10K

Will I finish last at the Beach to Beer 5K & 10K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:14, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:42, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Beach to Beer 5K & 10K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (120 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Beach to Beer 5K & 10K?

The 5K winner ran 17:40 while the median finisher took 37:14. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
